Nootropics
Evidence: strong_human
Prodrug that is hydrolyzed to choline and cytidine upon oral ingestion. Choline supports acetylcholine synthesis and phosphatidylcholine membrane repair. Cytidine is converted to uridine, which enhances synaptic membrane synthesis via the Kennedy pathway and upregulates dopamine receptor density. This dual mechanism — cholinergic support plus dopaminergic modulation — is unique among choline sources.
Standard: 250-500 mg/day
Maintenance: 250-500 mg/day; up to 2000 mg/day in clinical settings for stroke recovery
Administration: oral
Timing: Morning or split morning/afternoon. With or without food.
Duration: Ongoing; no cycling required
Preferred over Alpha-GPC when dopaminergic support is desired alongside cholinergic enhancement. The uridine conversion is clinically significant — CDP-Choline effectively provides the 'Mr. Happy Stack' components (uridine + choline) in one supplement. Generally better tolerated than Alpha-GPC and without TMAO concerns. Lower choline content per mg than Alpha-GPC (~18% vs ~40% choline by weight).
Cognizin is the gold-standard branded form with extensive clinical trial data. More shelf-stable than Alpha-GPC. Available as sodium or free-base salt.
