Bromelain

Mechanism of Action

Proteolytic enzyme complex from pineapple stems. Anti-inflammatory via modulation of prostaglandin synthesis, fibrinolytic, and anti-edematous. Degrades fibrin and reduces blood viscosity. Enhances absorption of other supplements (particularly quercetin and curcumin).

Interactions

  • Increases risk of bleeding with anticoagulants
  • Enhances absorption of antibiotics (amoxicillin)

Contraindications

  • Pineapple allergy
  • Pre-surgery (bleeding risk)
  • Active bleeding
